5 Ways to Show Gratitude for the Senior in Your Life
How to Show Gratitude for Your Favorite Senior
It can sometimes be difficult to show your gratitude to the friends and family in your life. Even those with the best intentions can find that life sometimes gets in the way. But, if we’re honest with ourselves, it doesn’t have to take a great deal of time to share acts of kindness.
A little bit of love can make a huge difference to our friends and family members living in senior care. Senior living communities, and particularly assisted living, help to keep loved ones healthy and engaged, but nothing beats a special moment with close friends and family.
If you’re looking for ideas on how to show gratitude to your loved one, we’ve created a simple list. Our hope is that these suggestions spawn some additional ideas of your own.
Suggested Acts of Kindness for Your Senior Friends and Family:
1. Spontaneous Outpouring of Love
You don’t have to spend a lot of money or take a lot of time to show your gratitude. A simple hug, an earnest “I love you,” or even a little gift “just because” may be all you need. Sometimes the smallest gesture can have the greatest impact.
2. Make a List of Why They’re Loved
Write a note reminding someone they are loved. List the reasons why they’re so important to you. Then stick it in the mail. They’ll enjoy getting a letter and love the reminder of how important they are in your life.
3. Take a Walk Down Memory Lane
Show your gratitude by having a heartfelt conversation. Talk about your favorite memories and ask for theirs. Be interested. Ask about their life. Just being there, in the moment, can make a big difference.
4. Random Acts of Kindness
In place of your normally scheduled visit, surprise your loved one with an in-person visit. Bring coffee and pastries or take them for a special outing. Or simply take the time to do some chores for them.
5. Create a Special Ritual
Another unique idea on how to show gratitude is to create a moment or something just for the two of you. Set up a weekly call, play a mobile game with them, or get together once a month for a meal or a visit.
